Week 4 Recap

WEEK 4 RECAP

The broadest type is existential nihilism: The belief that life has no inherent purpose.

“The broadest type of fantasy football player with success is the player with existential nihilism.” I know I’m not the only one hurting. Losing Javonte does hurt though, and it doesn’t at the same time. Because think about it, everything is beautiful and nothing hurts. There is a quote by the famous Umberto Eco that, I think, explains the struggle of the average fantasy football player,

“I have come to believe that the whole world is an enigma, a harmless enigma that is made terrible by our own mad attempt to interpret it as though it had an underlying truth.” And Samuel Beckett describes what I tell myself after losing one of my first two picks for the season, “I can't go on, I'll go on.”

 Without further ado.

WEEKLY AWARDS

Best Manager

Nic, Alex, and Chris all had 0.0 possible additional points possible to win. Of course, two of them won and the third did not but that’s not important to me.

Worst Manager

The worst manager this week was Jake, leaving 38.62 points possible on his bench. Most of that was Hockenson just completely exploding while Njoku was just mediocre. Honorable mention to Val, he came in at 37.14.

Biggest Blowout

Matt’s Griddy Grinners really turning things around with a mammoth 162.6 score to earn the rights to biggest blowout against Brian’s Neon Samurai. That 162.6 to 99.72 score was enough to secure victory by 62.88 points, or a Goff-and-a-half. I guess everyone that thought he reached on Jacobs is eating cake now, and bold move playing Josh Reynolds. Enjoy this win. On the other side Brian left some serious points on the board by rostering two kickers and playing an injured Kamara. That’s why those London games stink.

Narrow Victory

Andrew’s much maligned team, Lick mine McManus, beat Val’s Owen Four team the Greenbowl Packers. The difference was 2.9 points. If only Val had thought that playing the QB that he paid a bunch of FAAB to get in Jared Goff he might have won. And here we have the pitfalls of playing the waiver wire to block other players from picking up pieces, when you lose and have the player on your bench you look a little Jared Goofy.

Lowest Score

Jake’s DonHockenson’s Underdogs made a good point by showing us that benching your namesake can really hurt your team. I mean your TE in game did okay for a TE, but Hockenson dropped 40 on your bench. I guess you can take solace knowing that just swapping in Hockenson wouldn’t have been enough for the win, it just would have got you almost there.

Highest Score

Chris’ 5 Yard Fullers blew up and scored 185.56 points. I feel like this score, and the ones from the weeks prior just further re-enforce that Cooper Kupp should have been 1.01. Shoot, your QB only scored 6.76 and you made the highest score easy.

Top QB

Jared Goff of the Detroit Lions. Did this without Swift and without Amon-Ra.  Is that Lions offense for real? He had 41.22 points.

Top RB

Austin Ekeler, lovingly referred to as Awesome Excellent, almost did enough do make Herbert less than stellar. Almost. Good to see the TDs pour in for once. Ekeler scored 34.9 points.

Top WR

Justin Jefferson is back. He scored 31 points and proved that every player can take his griddy and use it, but not many can truly earn it.

Top TE

TJ Hockenson scored 39.9 points and secured his spot in the top 12 of TEs at the end of the year. 40 points from a TE that has been underwhelming thus far. Is it because of the Lions or is it because of the Seahawks? Keep an eye on Juwan Johnson for a definitive answer.

Trades Made This Week

We have the Dolphin boys and AROB on the move for Waller and Allgeier. This is one of those TE moves that I’m unsure if it solves the problem as it may be thought, but its worth a try. I think when we look back at it the most important pieces of this trade are going to be Mostert and Allgeier.

Last year’s MVP joins one of this year’s most exciting rookies on Jake’s team. Going the other way is Zeke, someone who doesn’t necessarily look like the best RB on their team, but they do look like the most utilized. Tyler Boyd joins, and who knows what to make of Boyd. He’s a very talented slot receiver that unfortunately has Higgins and Chase in front of him.
